1. Avoid touching your eyes
Experts recommend that you avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth because it can increase the risk of the virus entering your system. Many people with coronavirus have experienced eye problems such as conjunctivitis and viral pink eye.
You should remember that the virus can spread through touching fluid from infected eyes. Take precautions and be aware of the risks.
2. Avoid Wearing Contact Lenses
Contact lenses are not known to increase your risk of contracting novel coronavirus. However, contact lenses should not be used as they increase the likelihood of you touching your eyes more than the average person.
Glasses are a good choice. They won’t cause irritation and will stop your glasses from touching your eyes if you accidentally touch them.
3. Create A Backup For Medicines
Experts advise people to keep a stockpile of critical medications, if they’re taking them, so they won’t have any problems during self-quarantine. This may not be feasible for everyone, but it is possible to get eye medications for longer than one month in lockdown.
4. Opt for glasses
Glasses are a good idea because they don’t cause irritation and protect your eyes from harmful respiratory droplets.
You cannot rely solely on glasses for protection. The infection could still reach your eyes from the sides, tops, and other exposed areas. Infected people may need safety goggles to protect their eyes.
5. Be Socially Distancing and Hygienic
To keep you and your family safe, it is important that you follow the guidelines. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), has some guidelines.
- Use soap and water to wash your hands, or a hand sanitizer (60 percent alcohol) to clean them.
- Avoid touching your face (eyes and nose), or mouth.
- Wash your hands after you eat, use the bathroom, blow your nose, cough, or sneeze.
- When you sneeze or cough, use a tissue. After using it, dispose of it in an enclosed bin.
- When you are outside your home or around infected persons, it is important to observe social distance rules (at least 6 feet).
- If you are sick, stay indoors
- You should disinfect frequently used items such as doorknobs, doorsknobs, phones, tables, and chairs.
6. Do not rub your eyes
Many people have a tendency to rub their eyes every few hours. Although it might seem difficult to stop this behavior immediately, it will help reduce your chances of contracting the coronavirus. Use a tissue if you feel the need to rub your eyes. Eye drops can be used to treat dry eyes. This is the main cause of rubbing. If you need to touch your eyes, be sure to wash your hands with soap and water. They should be washed for at least 20 seconds
7. Reduce the length of your nails
Long nails are not good for your health as dirt can build up under your nails, which could also be a storage area for the coronavirus.
If you forget to clean this area after washing your hands with soapy water and then accidentally rub your eyes with your fingers, it can cause injury or allow the coronavirus infection to enter your eyes via your fingertips.
You should also practice relaxation exercises in addition to the preventive measures. If your eyes feel heavy or irritated, you can massage them with a cucumber patch, or do the 20-20 rule.
According to the 20-20 rule, you should give your eyes 20 seconds of rest every 20 minutes in order to focus on an object 20 meters away.
